| Ok,
I just contacted my internet provider & they do not block any ports. So, I'm thinking there has to be something on my computer that I don't know about that has ports blocked.
Question: If I have Windows Firewall turned off, do I still need to have rFactor and the ports opened through it?
Please help.

mj No, but perhaps it's on your box/router/modem, the NAT rules are not opened

| Have you opened the following ports TCP 39001 and UDP 39002 as they are used by matchmaker, the other way to test this is to give someone your IP and get them to connect directly. If they can then you know it isnt your windows firewall blocking it and it will be the router. | |

| Ok guys, I got it!!!!!
Thanks for the reply's. For some reason my Router was configured wierd. Dont' know why. Also, I had to get a program that then sent info to the specific ports and then Trend Micro would recognize it and ask for permission. When I gave permission it then worked. That is a really wierd way of doing things.
One last question, have you ever experienced any jumping around online. My brother was getting quick lockups with AI ingame last night. Is there a known reason for this?

| sounds like good old lag to me, couple of things to check make sure your settings for the network in game are correct for your connection, and secondly it could be hardware lag things like shadows being set to high can slow the game down a huge amount so maybe try turning the graphics down a bit to test it. but it could be something simple like a download going on in the background or windows update, or streaming music to listen while racing is a great one.
hope that helps at all. | |

| Hey,
Here is my latest update on this problem. I hosted the game last night. I had the connecting computer turn shadows off, but still had the lag. See, the problem is when we are driving, and seems to be on some same parts of track, all of a sudden the connecting computer will lag and then drop back like 5 car lengths. It's really wierd. If i'm behind the car, all of a sudden his will lag and then be behind me like 4 car lengths. Has anyone seen this?
What do you think I should check.

| i think every online racer has seen this at one time or another, have you made sure you have no background downloads going on both computers? or anything that can be using bandwidth. Also what net connection are you on? and have you tried a public server just too see if its you hosting or your brothers connection that is the issue? just a few more things to test out. | |

| That's what I am saying. What could I be looking for on his side of things? I know he is in a house that has Small Business Server 2003 running, but he is not on the Domain. Would this still affect him? | |

no, what spec is his computer, if his computer freezes up for a split second his car will freeze on your screen too. So sounds to me like he is running the settings too high for his pc to handle or he has some junk running in the background on his pc causing freeze's.

| Well, I will ask him tonight if he see's anything in single player. His pc is pretty capable and runs at 60fps all the time. I will have to check other things in the background.

| how come he is running a server, does that mean there are others using computers there too? or maybe he has a partner who is watching youtube or something or he has a wireless network that isnt secure and the neighbours are downloading porn, he really needs to clean the line and see what exactly is running and also as mentioned above what system is he running and what settings is he trying to run it at? | |

| well, thanks for the reply's. I will be there tonight to try and trouble shoot. What I did find out yesterday though is that his game lag's just the same when he is offline. Huh, made me wonder. I guess I will test some things tonight.
Do you guys have any thoughts on that? Do you think it could be the drivers? He had a Nvidia Geforce 7950 gt card. Do you think I should use old drivers, like the 172.90? He has the latest ones installed now.
Thanks,

| you could try and turn down visible cars in the options, ifs thats set too high it can pull it down especially on the start grid and first lap until the field stretches out, and it wont hurt to drop everything else down a notch just to see if it improves.
Im running GTX260 860mb and i still turn the visible cars down, performance over graphics anyday.
